I know alot of people hate Bill Clinton. They hate him because he was a completely flawed man, full of contradictions, lies, and faults. Like every single other one of us, liberal and conservative alike.
He recognized he was not a perfect man. Often he was a sinner, and a bad man. But from this recognition of his own ugly character he was able to see the potential best in everything else. And he used this everyman trait to relate to the leaders of the country and of the world.
The world was just a better place then. Not because it was *better* but because it wasn't, and it realized that, and it didn't lay its hope in aggrandized fears and oil wars, and lies about what constitues a moral value (like you could quantize something like that?) It was a warm fuzzy liberal dream world, but it was also dark enough to know at most all you could ever do was *try* to understand everyone else from your own point of view.
Now we again live in the automoton republican society of assimilate/eat/mate/die.
Perhaps its just mamalian. Patriarchy when allowed to run free turns into this. It's always been the same. Just think, America was founded on the ideals of liberty and with the backs of slaves. How perfect for the land of the free(rich/white/male).
